“The Jury finds the defendant, Donnetta Foster, GUILTY on 1 count of obstruction of a police officer.”
This statement broke my heart! I watched the facts of the case presented by both side as it pertains to THE LAW but the law does not matter if the jury, made up of 5 mature white women and 1 AA male, does not consider it.
I totally was supportive of this young woman in her effort to have a voice via the justice system. What her legal team of DavisBozemanLaw and I were not prepared for was the grey haired lady who would lead the jury to a decision.
How do I know this is what happened? Well after the verdict was read and the jury was dismissed to their quarters they were allowed to return and speak with the lawyers for questions. Only two returned and one was the grey haired white female who read the verdict and led the jury.
She looked Donnetta Foster in the eye and said, “You need to grow up young lady!” “I have two daughters and I teach them when you mess up you have to deal with the consequences.”
This is a very true statement but also proof that the jury decided to make an emotional decision and be parents and not jurors and only base their decision on THE LAW.
If this had been done, the decision would have obviously gone the other way.
Something else to consider is how we all have the right to a jury trial of our peers but only if our peers will show up for jury duty and stop making excuses for needing to leave once they finally get to the courtroom.
We are leaving our community in the hands of people who want to use ‘old skool’ parenting techniques and not THE LAW.

I agree. A lot of us don’t realize the importance of having a more diverse jury. I think that if you can, you should serve and not make excuses because you don’t want to.
It really hurt this mother. She did not have a chance with the jury she had and it really demonstrated the need to have a jury of your peers and people who just judge THE LAW!
Most jurors don’t judge the law. At least in my experience. I would never opt for a jury trial because it’s a risk that you could get a pool of fools.
And that is what happened. The Super sad part is I just got a call from the attorney saying one of the jurors feels he made a mistake and wants to talk to the media. DUH!
He was speaking last week but now he is not returning phone calls
A bit like some Immigration Official decisding who I should or should not fall in love with: all her opinion, not a shred of actual FACT in the decision.
